Plaka is a small coastal village in Apokoronas with a characteristic Cretan waterfront and a view across the bay that confuses some visitors — the island visible from Plaka is not Spinalonga (which is in the Elounda area) but Souda Island, a Venetian fortification of equal age and comparable atmosphere. The village has a small beach and excellent fish tavernas.
