Domata is a small sandy beach tucked into the Apokoronas coastline between Almyrida and Kalyves, accessible via a rough track that keeps it off the radar of most visitors to the area. The beach is sandy and gently shelving, with clear turquoise water and no facilities — a contrast to the organised beaches of Almyrida five kilometres west.
Why Visit Domata Beach
- ✓Sandy beach in an area that is mostly pebble — rare and comfortable.
- ✓Almost no tourist infrastructure means you can often have it to yourself outside August.
- ✓The shallow, gently shelving seabed makes it one of the safest swimming beaches in Apokoronas for children.
- ✓The drive along the coast road between Almyrida and Kalyves is scenic in its own right.

How to Get There
From Almyrida, take the coast road east towards Kalyves. After 4km, look for an unsigned rough track on the left leading to the coast. The beach is a 5-minute drive down the track, followed by a short walk.
Best Time to Visit
May, June and September are ideal. In July and August the beach can become crowded on weekends with locals from Chania.
The track is passable in a normal car in dry weather but can be difficult after rain. Park at the top and walk if uncertain.
