Kedrodasos sits at the southwestern tip of Crete, accessible only on foot from Elafonisi or by a rough track from Chrysoskalitissa monastery. The beach itself is fine white sand, sheltered by a dense grove of Juniperus macrocarpa — the Cretan cedar — whose twisted trunks provide shade without a sun-lounger in sight. Beyond the cedars, the sand is pale and the water shallow and warm. Almost nobody comes here.
Why Visit Kedrodasos Beach
- ✓One of the only naturally shaded beaches in western Crete — the cedar grove provides cover through the hottest part of the day.
- ✓The beach is officially a nudist beach, which keeps families with young children further away and maintains a particular calm.
- ✓The fine sand and shallow gradient makes it excellent for swimming even for nervous swimmers.
- ✓The sunset faces directly west over open sea — one of the best sunset beaches in Crete.

How to Get There
The easiest approach is from Elafonisi: a 40-minute walk south along the coast path. Alternatively, a rough track from Chrysoskalitissa monastery leads to within 15 minutes of the beach. There is no road to the beach itself.
Best Time to Visit
May, June and September for the ideal combination of warm water, manageable crowds and reliable weather. The cedar grove provides natural shade that makes summer visits more comfortable than most beaches.
Walk from Elafonisi early — the path takes 40 minutes and is easy in the morning but unpleasant in afternoon heat. Bring everything you need. There is nothing at the beach.
