Klisidi is a remote pebble beach on the south coast accessible from the village of Asi Gonia via a long mountain road. The beach sits at the foot of the White Mountains, where the road ends and the Libyan Sea begins. The water is intensely clear — the south coast consistently has better visibility than the north — and the surrounding landscape is one of the most dramatic on the island.
Why Visit Klisidi Beach
- ✓The drive through the White Mountains to reach it is a major attraction in itself — the road passes through some of the most dramatic scenery in Crete.
- ✓The beach is at the end of the road in a literal sense — there is nothing beyond it except sea and cliffs.
- ✓The water clarity is outstanding — visibility of 25 metres or more in good conditions.
- ✓The remoteness ensures genuine solitude except in peak August.

How to Get There
From Vrisses on the E75, take the road south through Asi Gonia. The road continues south through the White Mountains for approximately 40 minutes until it ends at the coast. High ground clearance recommended.
Best Time to Visit
May, June and September. The mountain road can be difficult after rain and is slow in any conditions.
The mountain drive takes longer than the map suggests — allow 1.5 hours from Chania. Bring extra water. The road to the beach is the adventure.
