Krios is a long, wild beach south-west of Paleochora, accessible by boat from the town harbour or by a rough track. The beach stretches for nearly two kilometres of coarse sand and pebble, facing the open Libyan Sea to the south. There is a small taverna at the north end, and nothing else. The views south are uninterrupted to the horizon.
Why Visit Krios Beach
- ✓The beach is long enough that even on busy days you can find solitude.
- ✓The Libyan Sea vista — uninterrupted ocean to Africa — has a particular quality of light and space.
- ✓A small seasonal taverna at the north end offers the basics: fish, cold drinks, raki.
- ✓The boat from Paleochora takes 10 minutes and the crossing is usually flat.

How to Get There
By boat from Paleochora harbour (10 minutes, regular service in summer). By rough track from the Paleochora direction — 4WD recommended. The boat is the better option.
Best Time to Visit
May through October. The beach faces south-west and catches the afternoon wind in July and August — mornings are calmer. The boat runs from June through September.
Take the boat from Paleochora and ask to be dropped at the far end of the beach, then walk back north. The far end is almost always empty.
